In this basic level soap making class we will show you how to make soap from a traditional oil blend and a lye solution. Participants will learn how to work safely with soap making ingredients to create naturally luxurious handcrafted soap for your family and friends.
We'll discuss how to use math and soap calculators to formulate your own recipes. The topics of lye safety, oil choices, fragrances, super fatting, natural additives, molding and curing will be covered. Students will take home two bars of ready-to-use soap and 2 pounds of the soap you made in class - a retail value of $65+! Lye will be available for sale at the class for $10 (cash only). Carol will send out an email reminder of this a week before class. As a bonus, class participants will also receive free samples from Rustic Escentuals to take home for soaping.
Class cost: $110.00 (includes materials)
The Hands-On Soap Making class is presented by Rustic Escentuals, a Spartanburg owned and operated craft supply company which opened its doors in 2000. The class instructor is Carol Isler. For nearly 25 years Carol has been making traditional soaps like her pioneer ancestors did. A retired chemistry teacher and science department chair, she taught soap making to her chemistry students at James F. Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina. Carol is a certified soap maker and soap making instructor through the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild. Through years of experience she has become an expert soap formulator, crafting soaps using locally sourced botanicals and base oils as well as fragrance oils. Her beautiful, natural soaps can be found online and in local boutiques.
Class minimum of 4 students and maximum of 10.
We keep class sizes small to ensure optimal learning experience. Due to the materials used, no one under 18 admitted.
